I Am an Immortal Shoot

I return from the Realm of Death.
They killed me
Because of fear and confusion.

I fell upon the burning desert
Where sands of hatred scorched the tender greens.

Yet I remain an immortal shoot.

Spring rains return,
And life arises once more.
A thousand colors
Make the desert sing
As flowers of compassion
Rise up from the burning sand.

I’ve died,
And yet I live!
How many times have I fallen,
Only to rise again?

You slay me
With envy and resentment—
Yet I live
And breathe through the endless years.

You threaten me.
You send watchers after me.
What is it you fear?

I have only two hands.
No weapons,
No swords, no guns.
Only faith in your basic goodness
Despite it all
And it never falters.

You harmed my teacher,
You sent assassins after him.
Yet he is still here—
The breath within my breath,
The heart within my heart.
The stream that flows on forever
From a source beyond time.

I am flowing water,
The fragrant soul of the ocean.
A drop returning
Again and again,
As the waves pound against the shore.

Storms
Cannot trouble the sea.
The vast ocean dwells
In unshakeable kindness.

Slay again if you must—
Slay every trace of pride.
Slay your delusion.
Slay every doubt
And fear
So that joy may blossom again.
Slay on, and on
So that life may resurrect again.

We live in eternity
And the current of life flows forward.
Through the current of time
We walk forever, hand in hand.

We have suffered,
And through it all
Love remains unaltered.
